The Red Chord – FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE

Massachusetts’ masters of mayhem, The Red Chord, have just released their latest (and by far their greatest) CD entitled FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE, a ravenous rampage of raw hatred directed at the trendy bands that litter the music scene. This their fourth full length release showcases their uncompromising song writing style which sets them miles above the rest with their highly technical guitar riffs, insane drumming, and ferocious layered vocals. But not everything is played on FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE is at 800 beats per minute, the brutal break-downs and sublime solos add a decorous divergence from the in-your-face intensity felt throughout.

The Red Chord has been together for over 9 years now, and in that time they’ve harnessed their powerful audial-attack into a mind-blowing assault of Death-core domination. From the first note heard to the last scream shouted, FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE is a non-stop barrage of blistering blast beats, heavy-as-all-Hell guitar riffs, and guttural growls. Front-man Guy Kozowyk clues us into the double (and sometimes triple) meanings behind his thought provoking lyrics on FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE: “Could it be about a dude talking about a zipper? And you turn it around and ask, ‘What does it mean to be fed through the teeth machine?’ Does it mean you started out doing a tour for $20 a night, getting chewed up and spit out? Where does it get you? That’s you trying to prove to people you are still attempting to do whatever you want. You are fed through a system, exploited.”

Well, one thing that The Red Chord certainly is not is one-dimensional. These guys take great pride in not only blowing your mind with their superior musicianship, but with their highly imaginative lyrical content. Do yourself a favor and pick up FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE. You won’t be disappointed!

King Diamond re-releases “THE GRAVEYARD” & “THE SPIDER’S LULLABYE” in time for Halloween!

Metal Blade records has just reissued 2 classic King Diamond albums, THE SPIDER’S LULLYBYE and THE GRAVEYARD, remarkably re-mastered and featuring all new eerie artwork. Each album will include bonus material that fans will be able to obtain digitally. Both THE SPIDER’S LULLABYE and THE GRAVEYARD will include live “bootleg” versions (with video footage) of the following songs: “The Spider's Lullabye” from the album of the same name, and “Trick Or Treat” and “Up From The Grave” from THE GRAVEYARD.

King Diamond himself praises the reissued CDs claiming “Andy LaRocque re-mastered both records and you can really hear more details and sounds that I remember recording but didn’t come through in the original mastering. The records have much more bottom end this time around. There’s even more details and clarity than the original version and you’ll hear things you’ve never heard before in both releases. Andy did a great job re-mastering and improving these albums above and beyond my expectations. The artwork has also been completely redone for SPIDERS and GRAVEYARD and is just amazing. I did not expect them to come out this good and am just completely thrilled with the result.” I agree wholehearted with King D’s sentiments and feel these re-mastered versions surpass the original’s intensity. The vocals sound superb, the guitar solos are crisp and in your face, the bass and drums push through the mix nicely, and the keyboards add an ominous element. So when you’re looking for the perfect soundtrack for your haunting Halloween weekend this year, look no further than these 2 wonderfully wicked masterpieces.

The Black Dahlia Murder – DEFLORATE

The Black Dahlia Murder has just released their latest CD entitled DEFLORATE, a brilliantly orchestrated onslaught of demonic vocals, maniacal percussive explosions, complex and creative rhythms, and face-melting guitar solos. DEFLORATE is their fourth full length release, and the follow up to their highly acclaimed NOCTURNAL CD. After headlining the 2008 Summer Slaughter Tour and having their first DVD “MAJESTY” debut at #2 on the Billboard Top Music Video Charts, DEFLORATE will most certainly elevate The Black Dahlia Murder to the highest echelon of the American Death Metal scene.
DEFLORATE kicks off with the infernal composition called “Black Valor”, a full throttle, high adrenaline track that rips through melodic thrash riffing masterfully harmonized by guitarist Brian Eschbach and new comer Ryan Knight, who also adds a new virtuoso element to the music with his superb solos. The blistering blast beats provided by Shannon Lucas and the prodigious bass playing of “Bart” Williams lays down the fiendish foundation for front-man and head blasphemer Trevor Strnad to scream and growl his wonderfully wicked words. Up next is “Necropolis”, a hard pounding, audial assault that also happens to be the band’s first video off of their new release which can be seen HERE. The mayhem pursues with tracks like “Christ Deformed”, and “Eyes Of Thousand” that push the band into new depths of brutality and showcase a more fierce vocal style than every heard before, and “I Will Return” demonstrates some mind blowing harmonies while still remaining impressive heavy.

DEFLORATE runs 10 tracks deep and plays a little over 34 minutes in length. It will certainly whet the appetites of the most ravenous bloodthirsty fans and fiends of extreme metal alike.

Landmine Marathon – RUSTED EYES AWAKE

The female fronted grindcore band, Landmine Marathon, has just reissued their 2008 release RUSTED EYES AWAKE. At a time when bands are seeking to be fastest or the most technical, Landmine Marathon heeds the age old motto Keep It Simple, Stupid, and revert back to the roots of this extreme form of music. Sounding often like a combination of Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, and Terrorizer, Landmine Marathon offers blast beats combined with brutal guitar riffing and screaming vocals that often lead to heavy break down riffs, with double vocals, and harmonized rhythms.
The CD plays in under a little 32 minutes, which is a little short for my tastes, but thankfully none of the 8 tracks are filler tracks. Each and every song kicks ass! Those of you who enjoy this era of metal, are going to love this CD.  I know I did!

Behemoth – EVANGELION

Behemoth has just released their 9th studio album entitled EVANGELION. Their best release to date, this brutal, blackened death metal band from Poland is decimating the uninitiated with their ultimate masterpiece. EVANGELION showcases amazingly fast drum beats, wickedly harmonized technical guitar riffs, and intense, guttural growls that spew blasphemous incantations that speak about liberating the self from the manmade concepts such as religion, tradition, and politics.
Behemoth’s new CD has a well defined depth to it’s production, often incorporating atmospheric elements such as eerie screams, crow sound effects, and orchestral keyboard overdubs. Their epic track entitled “Lucifer” incorporates all of these elements into a masterful tribute to the crown prince of Hell.

As to be expected from such a diabolic band, their first video for their head-banging track entitled “Ov Fire And The Void” has already been banned from YouTube. Fortunately for us, Behemoth’s American label, Metal Blade Records, is hosting the complete uncensored video here: http://www.metalblade.com/behemoth/index.html

EVANGELION’s 9 new tracks run a little under 42 minutes in length. The digipack edition will include a bonus DVD with behind-the-scenes footage and expanded artwork. A must for all fans of Behemoth, and lovers of the blackened death metal genre!

Thornafire – VOREX DECONSTRUCCIÓN

In America, music trends come and go every couple of years, but in South America their undying love for Metal has remained consistent for decades! They’ve produced such great bands as Sacrofago, Pentagram, Sepultura, and Krisiun, to name a few. Let us now look to Chile, where Thornafire’s new CD entitled VOREX DECONSTRUCCIÓN is making a huge impact not only the South American Metal fans, but on Metal fans all over the world.

Thronafire is an occult/anti-Christian Death Metal three-piece that writes immensely aggressive yet catchy songs that retain a groove and memorable structure. Their monstrous guitar riffs coupled with berserk blast beats and guttural growls place them in the vein of Morbid Angel, yet some of their tracks feature interesting keyboard overdubs and other tracks incorporate a female spoken voice. The vocals are entire in Spanish, but their message is blatantly clear, destroy and dominate all!
Thornafire will embark on their first ever U.S. tour in July with the legendary Monstrosity and Missouri's Torn the Fuck Apart. The band's amazing live performance is not to be missed.
Tour dates are as follows:
July 1 - Déjà vu Nightclub - Stuart, FL
July 2 - Volume 11 - Raleigh, NC

Church Of Misery – HOUSES OF THE UNHOLY

Combining the best elements of 70’s era Hard Rock and traditional Doom Metal, Japan’s Church Of Misery new CD, HOUSES OF THE UNHOLY, delivers over 48 minutes of a dark and disturbing Acid Metal. The band’s love Wah-Wah driven Metal, and their fascination with disturbing lyrical imagery has brought about a unique listening experience that is liken to a psychedelic bad-trip. Their sound is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, with that well defined 3 piece sound, but adds to it the random sound effect that mysteriously wanders into the sound-scape as part of the acid-trip effect.

Church Of Misery conjures up images of a latter-day Manson Family sitting around in blood-spattered tie-dyes, contemplating their next sinister move. Each one of the 7 epic tracks is dedicated to one the sickest know serial killers in human history. Albert Fish, Richard Speck, even El Padrino Adolfo Constanzo gets his tribute. So if you like your blood bath with a nostalgic 70’s vibe, be sure to check out Church Of Misery’s third full-length studio album HOUSES OF THE UNHOLY, and turn on, tune in, drop out.

The Crimson Armada - GUARDIANS

Not since the days of Stryper have I held such utter contempt for a band like I do for The Crimson Armada. These Black Dahlia Murder rip-offs have gone the route of preaching their spiritual benedictions while wearing the mask of Death Metal musicians. Attempting to layer their vocals like many of the more monstrous bands of this genre, The Crimson Armada falls short of reaching the proper aesthetics with lyrics like “Fall to your knees. I pray for mercy.” Not very brutal in my eyes!

The sad thing is that the guitar work is actually quite good on this CD. There is a high level of technical prowess between the guitarists. Their guitars harmonize nicely, and their riffing is very fluid with plenty of hammer-on and sweeping techniques used in their song structures. If only they didn’t try to sound so much like The Black Dahlia Murder and wrote some truly wicked music, then perhaps they would have won me over. But as far as I’m concerned, Death Metal is meant to be shocking and infernal, and this brand of Christian Metal is just not winning me over.

Moss - TOMBS OF THE BLIND DRUGGED

Fans of Occult Horror and Doom Metal lift yourselves from the dark bowels of stagnation and rejoice! Moss has arrived with their 3rd full length CD entitled TOMBS OF THE BLIND DRUGGED. Over 40 minutes of hypnotic music with an ominous aura that will pull your carcass down into the crypts and keep you there for all eternity.

TOMBS OF THE BLIND DRUGGED relies heavily on down tuned guitars, slugging drums, and spectral screams that screech in agony. The lyrical content centered on unspoken sciences and esoteric topics such as the drug rites and rituals of the Knights Templar. There’s a lot of distortion on everything, and feedback is often used to create a feeling of uneasiness. The title track features a passage that incorporates a pipe organ sound, creating an ever greater sense of discomfort and impending doom. Light hearted listeners take heed, after listening to Moss’ new CD; you may never want to return to happy-go-lucky world of rock n roll. You’ve been warned!

Job For A Cowboy – RUINATION

The awesomely talented Arizona quintet, Job For A Cowboy, have just released their 2nd full length CD on Metal Blade Records entitled RUINATION. The new album rushes at you in full force like a bucking bronco charging out of the stables from the first note, crushing you with cloven hooves and dragging you through the dirt to beg for mercy.

Jonny Davy’s layered demonic voice growls and screams over Bobby Thompson and Al Glassman chugging guitars that create a thundering wall of sound that’s topped off with Brent Riggs bottom heavy bass lines. RUINATION marks the JFAC recording debut of drumming prodigy Jon “The Charn” Rice, who delivers mind blowing blast beats and super sonic double bass work, elevating JFAC to a new level of technicality and brutality. The combination of these five elements creates an extremely well written and powerful album of pure Death Metal dominance.

As You Drown – REFLECTION

The Swedish 5 piece called As You Drown has proven that the do-it-yourself mentality of the tape trading days can still work in this technical era we live in. Their debut full length album REFLECTION was produced in the band’s own AYD Studio in an attempt to maintain a demo-feel to the recording process, yet create the heaviest sound they desired without having to compromise due to time constraints. The result is a deadly dose of Death Metal music doesn’t hold any punches.

As You Drown’s old-school approach to song writing produces some really catchy, fast picking riffs, yet their cut times are filled with the stop-and-go guitar work that’s popular with newer bands today. These do-it-yourselfers have a thick guitar sound, deep clicking bass, plenty of harmonized counter melodies, percussive samples, and insanely demonic vocals. All of sonic layers in this self produced CD keep it from sounding too old-school (no doubt a benefit from having their own studio). As You Drown sounds similar to veteran bands like Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, and Grave, but still manages to keeps their music sounding fresh and new. These guys are just getting started, so expect more great releases from this band in the future.

Goatwhore - CARVING OUT THE EYES OF GOD

The dark and evil quartet known as Goatwhore have just released their latest CD entitled “CARVING OUT THE EYES OF GOD”. Another step in evolution of their signature Louisiana Black Metal style, Goatwhore’s new album is heavier and even more blasphemous than the rusted carving blade they used to render their rival sightless.

“CARVING OUT THE EYES OF GOD” is Goatwhore’s 4th full length release, and their much anticipated follow up to their highly successful 2006 Metal Blade release, “A HAUNTING CURSE”. This CD marks the band’s 2nd collaboration with the engineering wizard Erik Rutan, from the infamous Manna Studios in Florida. The crystal clear production achieved allows us to hear those little intricate details like Zack Simmons drumming thundering triplet patterns and blistering blast beats that cut through the wall of rhythms laid down by Sammy Duet (guitar) and Nathan Bergeron (bass). Ben Falgoust’s wicked words snarl with diabolic fury, as his vocal patterns are delivered with a veteran’s precision and clarity. The overall effect is a CD that feels like a tribute to the Black Metal forefathers Celtic Frost, Venom, and Slayer, yet sounds completely new and unlike anything else released in 2009. Highly recommended for fans of the aforementioned bands, and to all ye malicious Metal Heads who thrive on metaphysical music.

IWRESTLEDABEARONCE – It’s All Happening

IWRESTELEDABEARONCE’s new CD “It’s All Happening” is a whirlwind of violent riffing and screams that sporadically switches from electronica to jazz and all points in between, creating a unique listening experience that can be compared to an epileptic seizure. As painful as that may sound, it’s actually quite entertaining, and all the random elements work well together, especially if you like this kind of avant-garde music.

IWRESTELEDABEARONCE writes music with only their listening pleasure in mind and if they get a strong reaction to their music, the members of this band feel that they’ve done their duty. IWABO's new album manages to take their complex sound one step beyond, surpassing their previous release on many levels. Singer Krysta Cameron's vocals shine through in ways never before heard, while the music has been given the royal treatment it deserves with an excellent production that captures every subtle nuance. Krysta’s lyrics on this album are more spiritual, personal, and introspective than before.

Guitarist Steven Bradley comments, "We couldn't be happier with how the album turned out! …We went out of our way to expand our sound in every way possible, and this album is definitely more extreme in every direction than our previous EP. Also, we wanted to steer clear of an over-produced and lifeless sounding record, and I believe we've found a balance between all the electronics we use and a raw un-edited sound."

MARILYN MANSON – The High End Of Low

Everyone’s favorite Antichrist, Marilyn Manson, has returned to the media spotlight with his latest release “The High End Of Low”. This new CD is a collection of misanthropic mayhem that covers a slew of emotions as we journey through an hour’s worth of new music. Songs like “Pretty As A Swastika”, “Arma-goddamn-motherfuckin-geddon” and “We’re From America” kick you right in the face with their punk-like feel (no doubt due to the return of Twiggy Ramirez), while tracks like “Four Rusted Horses”, “Running to the Edge of the World”, and “Into the Fire” really showcase Marilyn Manson’s ability to achieve that melancholic mood and really sing his heart out over mostly acoustic instruments.  There’s something here for everyone, whether aggressiveness is your attention-getter, or dark and gloomy is your poison of preference. Marilyn Manson has covered all his bases with “The High End Of Low”, a perfect follow up to “Eat Me, Drink Me”.

Controversial content is to be expected from the man who’s infamous for pushing people’s buttons, and it seems that Manson has even pushed his label, Interscope Records, to bleep out a line on the track “Blank and White”, where he sings "Let's shoot up the mall/The school/or the President of whatever/or whoever wants to fight". The censorship even appears on uncensored versions of the album, so expect to see a filthier version of this track in the near future from Mr. Manson.
